The Cost of Living
Williamstown Theatre Festival
Scenic Design by Wilson Chin
Two turtles with attached platforms and furniture, as well as a functioning shower and sink, made up the bulk of this set. The window seen here also acted as a lightbox. One side of the SR turtle.
Second side of the SR turtle. The tub was not practical in terms of plumbing.
One side of the SL turtle. Both turtles were driven manually by stagehands, guided by knife-tracks in the deck.
Second side of the SL turtle. The sink and shower here were both practical, run by a gravity system with a removable drain pan below the shower floor and a bucket to catch the sink's water. The bucket, along with all plumbing and the water-source bucket, was contained on-board within the thickness of the turtle's wall.
